Backstreets Back Alright!
Backstreet Boys were the pop stars of the 90s. Every girl was in love with them. I was one of these obsessive girls. But, sadly Backstreet Boys faded out and the boy band craze was replaced by hip hop stars. I don't think I really ever let go of backstreet boys. I mean, they were classic. I would still marry Brian any day. I came to China and discovered that the boy band craze was still very much alive in China. My students were just as much in love with Backstreet boys as me. You better believe I taught them a Backstreet boy song, "As Long As You Love Me." It was by far my favorite lesson. My students loved it. I'm not going to lie. There is something about hearing a bunch of Chinese kids try and sing Backstreet boys that just makes me happy. It was pretty entertaining to say the least. I took a video of it, naturally, but that will have to wait until I'm home. One of my classes didn't get to learn the song because they had a P.E. test that week. They were so upset when they found out everyone else got to learn the song. One of my students, a little chubby Chinese boy, came up to me and asked, "Miss Brooke can we please learn As Long As You Love Me?" Please… did he really need to ask? Sam's students heard that I was teaching them Backstreet boys and they wanted to learn too. They full on asked him, "Can we learn As Long As You Love Me?" Much to Sam's resentment, he taught them the song last week. People ask if I think I've made a difference with my kids. I believe I have. Chinese students requesting to learn Backstreet Boys… mission accomplished. All I can say is Backstreets back alright!!!
